BMW Tuning On A Budget
For many car nuts, once they buy a new car, that is only the very beginning of a long and sometimes expensive project of modifying to result in boosted BMW performance. There are many thousands of various choices on how you accomplish this. Where do you begin, what can be completed by the typical home mechanic and what requires pro help? Also, where can one locate premium parts at the best price? Purchasing parts is the part of tuning that you have the most control over and where you can save the most time and expense, if done correctly.
Now, there is more than one theory on this issue. With respect to BMWs, a lot of design and engineering was done by BMW to produce a world class vehicle that is often a superior performer than many of its peers. It's far too easy to whind up heading backwards in your search for performance by buying flawed parts, installing them incorrectly or not matching up the performance levels of various systems on your car. Also, BMW is now producing a line of its own aftermarket parts so you can be confident of the same quality and engineering in these parts just like the rest of your car. The negative side is these parts are frequently more expensive than their non-BMW counterparts.
So, how can one go about finding quality parts for your BMW? I am a big believer of doing research online. There are many exceptional forums out there made up of many thousands of BMW owners. With some effort you can frequently find someone with your exact car who has already done the same modifications to their car and can frequently provide some valuable insight into what works, who has the lowest price, install hints and more. Some of the best include E90Fanatics, e46fanatics and roadfly.org. Time spent here will save you signifiacnt money and frustration so you don't have to make the same mistakes as others have.
Another excellent resource that is frequently overlooked is eBay. The choices is often overwhelming and there are many cheap, knock-off parts that you should try to avoid. However, if you buy from a known seller with good feedback and do your research on exactly the part you need and at what price, you can certainly maximize your tuning budget. You can locate new parts, OEM BMW parts and used BMW parts quickly and easily to make your modding project a the car you have dreamed of.
